Import permits and clearances

The permits and clearances your products need, in place before they ship, so registered goods actually move through customs.

Overview

Registration is only half of market access

Registering a product does not on its own move it through the port. Depending on the product, imports may need FDA import-related authorizations, and food or agricultural goods of plant or animal origin may also need Sanitary and Phytosanitary import clearances from the relevant Department of Agriculture bureau. Each shipment must then satisfy Bureau of Customs requirements before it is released.

The combination that applies depends on what you import, where it comes from and how it is classified, and a single missing document can hold an entire container. We map the permits and clearances your product line needs, align them with your FDA authorizations, and coordinate with your customs broker so each shipment arrives with its paperwork in order.

Frequently asked questions

Import questions, answered

Not always. Registration authorizes the product, but some categories carry further import-related requirements, and goods of plant or animal origin may need clearances from Department of Agriculture bureaus. We confirm the full set for your product.

It can be held at the port, refused entry or seized, and storage charges build while the problem is resolved. Securing permits before shipping is the only reliable way to avoid this.

We coordinate with your licensed customs broker rather than replace them. Our role is making sure the regulatory permits and clearances are in place and consistent with your registrations, so the broker’s filing goes through cleanly.
